*OUCH* My Poor Coach

By BitcoDavid

There I was, half way through the 10th round with my coach, Ilir Ymeri, in our weekly sparring match. He had me up against the ropes, and I was trying to duck out. Well, when I ducked – he must have been moving forward on his lead leg, because my knee hit his knee, and down he went.

Now, if you know Ilir – the Albanian Assassin whom we lovingly call, the KGByou know that he’s a 200+ pound, wall of muscle. Me? I’m a middleweight, and although I’ve been boxing for almost 5 years now – as any fighter will tell you – I’m still a newbie.

Our weekly sparring sessions are for teaching, not for fighting. Of course we fight – I mean, that’s what fighters do, right? But the point is, we’re not trying to kill each other, I’m trying to learn and he’s trying to teach. So this knee thing was an accident, and I feel terrible about it. His knee is really banged up.

This could happen to anybody – a simple accident in the ring – nobody at fault. There is a point, however. What we do is dangerous, and we need to take care so we don’t get seriously hurt, or seriously hurt our opponents.

Well, that’s all I’ve got, but keeping the above in mind, remember – always protect yourself.
